Join us for a weekend of LOVEly festivities on 0922 0923 and 0924 in 2023 Catch A Ride – The 2nd Annual Love Fest Parade! The second Love Fest Parade (HudsonValley’s beloved Classic Volkswagen car show) will take place on September 24th, 2023 and travels from Kingston, NY to Woodstock, NY.
The Love Fest Parade was organized byJohn Stavros of the Kingston Pop Museum to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the original Woodstock Music and Art Festival. The first parade was held in 2021 and featured over 100 classic Volkswagen vehicles, including buses, vans, and Beetles. The vehicles were decorated with peace signs, flowers, and other symbols of the 1960s counterculture movement.The parade was followed by a traditional car show at the Woodstock Town Hall.The first Love Fest Parade was a great success, where the party continued on till the sun went down. It was fun and festive event that celebrated the 1960s counterculture movement and the Woodstock Music and Art Festival. It was so successful that the Kingston Pop Museum decided to make it an annual event! The museum is hoping to make the Love Fest Parade a major tourist attraction for the Woodstock area.
Here are some additional details about the 2023 Love Fest Parade
The parade route begins at the Kingston Pop Museum at 672 Broadway and travels to Woodstock then returns to Kingston.The parade will be led by a 1970 Westphalia featuring the original Woodstock Peace Symbol art curetted at last year’s Art Basel Miami by artists Eugene Stetz, Annabelle Poppa, and Will Teran. The Westfalia original owner was the road manager of The Dave Mathews Band. Other classic VW’s in the parade will include a newly painted 1969 Karmann Ghia decorated as a flower-powered vehicle by additional famous artists. There will also be several classic cars in the parade, including Beatles Campers and many well-kept VWs of various years. The parade will be followed by a car show at the Kingston Pop Museum on Broadway in its back lot. The 2021 car show featured over 100 classic car VW’s and we envision this year to include just as many! The festival begins on Friday, September 22nd with many well-recognized artists featuring art to reflect a psychedelic environment and will feature a live show with musical artists Tasso Zapanti and Cecil Hooker in a set called Sound andVision. A special live art exhibition will follow with artist Roman Zelgatas. On Saturday, September 23rd from 10 AM till sundown, see artists Eugene Stetz withPaul Kostabi paint the 1969 Karmann Ghia VW in the back lot of the Kingston Pop Museum (the entrance is on Down Street, right after Masa Cafe.) Once the sun goes down we light up the night with the Lower East Side’s favorite band SoulCake. The Sunday after the parade on September 24th singer-songwriter Dylan Nirvana does his solo act joined by an all-star lineup of musicians in an old-school jam session at the Kingston Pop Museum. Mr.Stavros himself will take care of the Barbeque and Ouzo shots. The entire weekend will be packed with fun activities for arts and culture fans to join in.
