Scott Michael Ackerman
Kingston Pop Museum presents, ‘Dear Alice’ a solo show by Kingston artist, Scott Michael Ackerman. The opening reception will be held at 672 Broadway, Kingston NY on Friday, Sept. 24th from 6-9 pm.
Expecting his first child at the end of this month, Ackerman’s ‘Dear Alice’ is a celebration of new beginnings and includes a selection of new work, favorite pieces, as well as others that have never been shown before.
Scott Michael Ackerman is a self-taught artist, and although he is not one for labels, he is known as an ‘Outsider’ artist because his unconventional and primitive approach to painting rejects the boundaries of traditional culture. Rather than start with a blank canvas, Ackerman prefers to use ‘found objects’ with rough characters such as old wood, windows, and doors to help inspire him. Also unique to Ackerman’s personal style is his playful use of words in his artwork. His paintings are celebrated for being honest, raw, and relatable.
